For the July 2026 to June 2027 payment period, the maximum monthly benefit is $204.20, based on your adjusted family net income from your 2025 federal income tax return.

The CDB is income-tested, so $204.20 is a maximum, not a flat payment for every approved applicant. A separate $150 supplemental lump-sum payment is also being introduced for eligible CDB recipients to help offset the cost of obtaining the Disability Tax Credit (DTC); no separate application is required for that supplement.

Who can qualify?

To qualify for the CDB, you generally need to meet all of the following:

be between 18 and 64 years old for the monthly benefit;

be approved for the Disability Tax Credit (DTC);

be a Canadian resident for income tax filing purposes;

have filed your 2025 federal income tax return for the 2026–27 payment period;

if you have a spouse or common-law partner, they generally must also have filed their 2025 federal return;

meet the program’s citizenship or immigration-status requirement — for example, Canadian citizen, permanent resident, protected person, a person registered or entitled to be registered under the Indian Act, or a qualifying temporary resident who has lived in Canada throughout the previous 18 months.

How much can you receive in 2026–27?

For July 2026 through June 2027:

maximum monthly CDB: $204.20;

the amount is based on your 2025 adjusted family net income;

your entitlement is reassessed each year using the previous year’s tax information.

Working income exemption

Some employment, self-employment and taxable scholarship income is excluded from the benefit calculation:

single person: up to $10,210 of working income;

person with a spouse or common-law partner: up to $14,294 of combined working income.

Earning more than those amounts does not automatically mean your CDB becomes zero; the overall calculation still depends on adjusted family net income and family circumstances.

New $150 supplemental payment: the federal government completed the regulatory process in 2026. The amendments take legal effect on 1 September 2026, and the official CDB amount page says eligible recipients may receive the fixed $150 lump sum starting in fall 2026. You do not need to submit a separate application. The government has not set out a universal exact deposit date on the cited page, so this article does not invent one.

How to apply

Service Canada offers several application routes:

online — recommended by Service Canada for a faster application process;

by phone;

in person at a Service Canada office;

by printed form, submitted at an office or mailed to the CDB Processing Centre.

If Service Canada sent you a letter, it may contain a unique six-digit application code and instructions. The information you need varies depending on whether you apply for yourself or as a legal representative.

When will you get your first payment?

After approval, the official CDB page says your first payment is generally on the third Thursday of the following month. It can include eligible back payments.

If you apply later, you may be able to receive back payments for up to 24 months from the date Service Canada receives your application, but no payment can relate to months of eligibility before June 2025.

The DTC is a key first step

Being approved for another disability program does not by itself replace the CDB’s DTC requirement. If you do not yet have DTC approval, check the Canada Revenue Agency’s DTC process. The DTC application involves information from the person applying and certification by an eligible medical practitioner.

Frequently asked questions

Does every approved person get $204.20 a month?

No. $204.20 is the maximum for the July 2026 to June 2027 payment period. The actual amount depends on adjusted family net income and the program’s calculation rules.

Do I have to apply separately for the $150 supplement?

No. The federal government says eligible recipients do not need to apply separately for the supplemental payment.

Can I get the CDB just because I receive a provincial disability benefit?

Not automatically. CDB eligibility includes DTC approval, age, tax-residency, tax-filing and status requirements.

What if I apply after turning 65?

You may still be able to receive eligible back payments for months before you turned 65, subject to the 24-month rule and the June 2025 earliest-payment limit.

Official information and application

Government of Canada — Canada Disability Benefit

CDB — eligibility

CDB — how much you could receive

CDB — apply

Government of Canada — 2026 supplemental-payment update

The Canada Disability Benefit (CDB) is open for applications.
