Massachusetts MOR-EV Rebates 2026: Up to $6,000 for Eligible EV Buyers<\/p>\n
Massachusetts residents buying or leasing an eligible electric vehicle may currently qualify for a $3,500 MOR-EV rebate. Income-qualified residents can potentially add $1,500 through MOR-EV+, while a qualifying internal-combustion vehicle trade-in can add another $1,000, bringing the combined incentive to as much as $6,000 when all applicable requirements are met.<\/p>\n
The $6,000 figure is therefore not a standard payment for every EV buyer. It requires eligibility for the base rebate, MOR-EV+ and the trade-in adder.<\/p>\n
Under the rules currently being used by the programme:<\/p>\n
The vehicle must also appear on the MOR-EV eligible vehicle list.<\/p>\n
MOR-EV+ provides an additional $1,500 for income-qualified Massachusetts residents.<\/p>\n
Under the current programme information, applicants can qualify through certain approved assistance programmes or by meeting the applicable modified adjusted gross income rules. The listed AGI limits include $150,000 for married filing jointly or a surviving spouse, $112,500 for a head of household and $75,000 for other filers.<\/p>\n
MOR-EV Trade-In applies when a Massachusetts resident trades in a qualifying internal-combustion-engine vehicle at the time an eligible EV is purchased or leased.<\/p>\n
Among the requirements, the old vehicle must generally be at least 12 model years old, have an internal-combustion engine rather than being a hybrid or plug-in hybrid, and meet inspection and trade-in documentation rules.<\/p>\n
Depending on the rebate, applicants may receive it at the point of sale through a participating dealership or submit an online application after the purchase or lease.<\/p>\n
For the standard, used and MOR-EV+ programmes, post-purchase applications generally must be submitted within 90 days. Prequalification is important when an income-qualified buyer wants the applicable rebate applied at the dealership.<\/p>\n
Massachusetts DOER filed proposed amendments to the MOR-EV regulations on 17 July 2026. The proposal includes lower vehicle price caps and changes to MOR-EV+ eligibility, among other revisions.<\/p>\n
As of 27 August 2026, those changes are still in the rulemaking process: public comments remain open until 5 p.m. on 4 September 2026, with hearings scheduled for 1 and 2 September. The proposed figures should therefore not be presented as though they are already the current programme rules.<\/p>\n
