For the July 2026 to June 2027 benefit year, the maximum annual amount is C$1,750 for the first child, C$1,100 for the second child and C$900 for each additional child, with single-parent families potentially receiving up to an additional C$500 per year.

The 2026–27 payment period is currently underway. Families who have filed their 2025 tax returns and already receive the Canada Child Benefit generally do not need to submit a separate BC Family Benefit application.

How much is the BC Family Benefit in 2026–27?

For July 2026 through June 2027, the maximum amounts are:

| Family member | Maximum monthly amount | Maximum annual amount |
| ———————— | ———————: | ——————–: |
| First child | C$145.83 | C$1,750 |
| Second child | C$91.66 | C$1,100 |
| Each additional child | C$75.00 | C$900 |
| Single-parent supplement | Up to C$41.66 | Up to C$500 |

The single-parent supplement applies in addition to the regular benefit, but the actual amount received depends on family income.

2026–27 income limits

The amount is based on your 2025 adjusted family net income (AFNI).

AFNI of C$30,176 or less

Families within this income range can receive the maximum BC Family Benefit amounts.

AFNI above C$30,176 but below C$96,562

The benefit is reduced by 4% of the portion of AFNI above C$30,176.

Within this income range, the CRA states that the benefit will not fall below:

C$64.58 per month for the first child

C$62.50 per month for the second child

C$60.41 per month for each additional child

AFNI of C$96,562 or more

The remaining benefit is reduced by a further 4% of the portion of AFNI above C$96,562, until the benefit reaches zero. This means there is no single income cut-off that applies equally to every family; the point at which the benefit becomes zero depends on family circumstances and the number of children.

Who can receive the BC Family Benefit?

The benefit is intended for eligible British Columbia families caring for children under age 18 and is administered by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) as a provincial program related to the Canada Child Benefit.

In practice, eligibility and payment amounts are determined using the information the CRA already holds for your Canada Child Benefit and your annual income tax returns.

Do you need to apply?

There is no separate BC Family Benefit application if:

you have filed your 2025 income tax return; and

your child is already registered for and receiving the Canada Child Benefit.

If you have a spouse or common-law partner, they must also file a tax return every year, even when they have little or no income. Failure to file can cause Canada Child Benefit and related provincial payments to stop temporarily.

If you have not yet applied for the Canada Child Benefit, you should first complete the CCB application process. The CRA then uses that information to determine eligibility for related provincial benefits.

What if you filed your 2025 tax return late?

For most individuals, the filing deadline for the 2025 tax return was April 30, 2026.

If a required return was filed late, benefit payments can be interrupted. Once the return is assessed, the CRA determines entitlement again and may include missed eligible amounts in a later scheduled payment.

When are payments made?

The BC Family Benefit is combined with the Canada Child Benefit and issued as part of the same monthly payment.

For the remainder of 2026, scheduled CCB payment dates—which include related provincial programs—are:

September 18, 2026

October 20, 2026

November 20, 2026

December 11, 2026

The July 20 and August 20, 2026 payments have already passed. The CRA generally pays child benefits around the 20th of each month, with adjustments when the date falls on a weekend or federal holiday.

Changes that can affect your payment

Make sure the CRA has up-to-date information if:

you move;

your marital status changes;

a child enters or leaves your care;

your custody arrangement changes; or

your banking information changes.

Changes to family circumstances may change the amount you are entitled to receive.

Shared custody

Families with shared custody should be aware that child and family benefit calculations can differ from full-time custody arrangements. The CRA applies its shared-custody rules to the Canada Child Benefit and related provincial and territorial benefits.

Check your custody information in your CRA account and report changes promptly.

Important points before relying on the maximum amount

The advertised C$1,750 per year is the maximum for the first child, not a flat payment to every family.

Your actual BC Family Benefit can be lower because of your adjusted family net income. Likewise, the C$500 single-parent amount is a maximum supplement, not a guaranteed additional C$500 for every single-parent household.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to apply for the BC Family Benefit separately?

Usually no. If you have filed the required tax returns and your child already receives the Canada Child Benefit, the BC Family Benefit is calculated automatically.

Does every first child qualify for C$1,750?

No. C$1,750 is the maximum annual amount. Payments are income-tested and can be reduced.

Is the single-parent supplement always C$500?

No. Eligible single-parent families may receive up to C$500 per year in addition to the regular benefit.

What income year is used for the current payments?

Payments from July 2026 through June 2027 are based on 2025 adjusted family net income.

What happens if I do not file my tax return?

Your Canada Child Benefit and related provincial payments may stop. Both you and your spouse or common-law partner, if applicable, should file every year.

Official information

Government of British Columbia — B.C.
